-ICC World Test Championship
Bureau Report
Karachi: The finalists for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) will be decided in a unique way after most of the series were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the final two teams will be confirmed by the percentage of points they have earned from those they have actually contested for.
The ICC’s cricket committee has opted for this option, however, final approval will be given by the CEC (chief executives’ committee) this week. The ICC’s last quarterly meeting of the year commences on Monday this week.
The other option has been discarded by the committee to splits points and consider matches as draws which were not played in between this cycle. The committee wants this WTC cycle to be completed which will allow them to hold the next one.
After this development, Australia tops the WTC table as they have 82.22 points percentage currently. India ranks second with 75.00 while England is third with 60.83.
It must be noted that the final is scheduled to play in June 2021 in England.
