Five Pak students set for Japan visit under JENESYS

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan has invited five Pakistani university students to take part in the JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) programme, an initiative that brings together young people from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The delegation will visit Japan from December 16 to 23, joining 35 high school and university students from SAARC member countries, said a press release issued here on Monday.

This year’s programme focuses on environmental sustainability and disaster resilience. Through a series of activities, participants will learn about Japan’s approach to these issues and explore how countries in the region can work together to address shared challenges.
The JENESYS programme, established by the Government of Japan, aims to build understanding between youth in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. It introduces participants to Japan’s economy, history, political structure, and foreign relations.
The programme combines lectures, discussions, and study tours that allow students to engage directly with institutions and communities connected to the year’s theme. Cultural exposure also forms a core part of the experience, with students taking part in site visits that illustrate everyday life in Japan.
The Embassy of Japan in Islamabad held a pre-departure orientation session for the Pakistani delegation. The session briefed students on travel, cultural expectations, and the activities planned during their stay.
Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi met the students during the session and extended his best wishes. He encouraged them to take full advantage of the exchange and highlighted the importance of the homestay element, which allows participants to spend time with Japanese host families.
According to the ambassador, this experience offers a direct window into local life while giving both students and hosts an opportunity to share their cultural backgrounds.
He noted that the students will act as cultural ambassadors and that their engagement can support stronger ties between Japan and Pakistan.
He expressed hope that the exchange would contribute to long-term understanding between young people in the region.
Held annually, the JENESYS programme seeks to promote collaboration and learning among youth from Japan and SAARC countries.
Through this initiative, participants gain exposure to regional issues, build networks, and contribute to greater cooperation between their societies.
