Flood response urged with more rain for China

BEIJING: Flood response work should be upgraded as strong rain will hit parts of China in the next three days, the Ministry of Water Resources said on Monday. From Tuesday to Thursday, strong rain will lash parts of southwestern, northwestern and northern China, as well as reaches along the Yellow River and the Huaihe River, the ministry said. The rain will raise water levels in the upper stream of the Yangtze River, as well as the upper streams of its two major tributaries, namely the Jialing River and the Hanjiang River, the ministry said. Meanwhile, the Yellow River and the Huaihe River will also swell amid the rain, while some small rivers will see floods above alert levels, it said. Since June, continuous downpours have lashed large parts of southern China, and the water in many rivers in the affected regions has exceeded alert levels. – Agencies
