ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi left for Tajikistan on a three-day visit on Sunday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting to be held in Dushanbe.
Qureshi will also address the council meeting besides attending the meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Contact Group for Afghanistan during his three-day visit. He will acquaint the world with Pakistan’s point of view on the Afghan peace process, changing situation in the region as well as regional cooperation.
Qureshi will also meet Tajikistan President Imam Ali Rehman during the visit.
On the sidelines of the meeting, he will meet with the foreign ministers of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Russia, and China. Issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and promotion of regional ties, will be discussed in these meetings. The foreign minister’s visit is expected to be helpful in promoting peace in Afghanistan, adopting a common approach to the law and order situation in the region, and promoting cooperation between SCO member states in several areas.
