KARACHI: At least four people, including two women, lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in Karachi on Friday, according to police and rescue officials.
A woman was killed and another person injured after a speeding water tanker rammed into a motorcycle at Korangi Crossing. Enraged by the accident, locals set the water tanker on fire before police could intervene.
In another incident, a passenger bus overturned near the Samundari Baba shrine in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted at least eight injured passengers to a nearby hospital for treatment. A rescue operation was still underway at the time of reporting.
On Quaidabad Bridge, a motorcyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a truck. According to police, the truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The latest spate of road accidents highlights growing concerns over traffic safety and the regulation of heavy vehicles in Karachi. The city has witnessed a sharp rise in fatal accidents involving buses, trucks, and dumpers this year. –Agencies
