PESHAWAR: Four suspects arrested in connection with the gang rape of two women were killed in a police encounter in the Rehman Baba area of Peshawar, police said on Friday.
According to police, the suspects were being taken for identification and recovery when unidentified armed men ambushed the police party. In the ensuing exchange of fire, all four suspects were killed, police said.
Police stated that the suspects were killed by firing from their accomplices, who managed to escape from the scene.
The four suspects had been arrested a day earlier in connection with the gang rape of two women in Garhi Mosa Khan.
Police said the suspects scaled the wall of a neighbor’s house and forcibly entered it, tying the owner and his minor son, and sexually assaulting the two wives of the man at gunpoint.
The incident occurred around 2am on Sunday, within the jurisdiction of Rehman Baba police station.
After the assault, the accused also snatched the women’s mobile phones. The tragic incident took place in the presence of a seven-year-old girl, and provisions of the Child Protection Act were also included in the FIR.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations Farhan Khan took immediate notice of the incident and ordered the swift arrest of the suspects. Following forensic analysis, police were taking the suspects for identification and recovery when the encounter occurred. –Agencies
