ISLAMABAD: A day after a group of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party continued to expand its ‘fold of electibles’ as four more PML-N members of the national and Punjab assemblies joined it.
Renowned politician and PML-N lawmaker from Khanewal, Raza Hayat Harraj – who during the last two decades has remained part of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the PML-Quaid and the PML-N – formally announced he was joining the PTI.
Another MNA from Gujranwala Rana Umer Nazir Khan and MPAs Abdur Razzaq Khan Niazi and Raheela Yahya Munawar also parted ways with the PML-N and joined the PTI. Raheela was elected as an MPA on a PML-N’s reserved seat from Punjab.
All four newcomers to the party also held meetings with Imran Khan before making the announcement. Besides that a known political family from Kamoke also joined the PTI after its chieftain Rana Umar met with Khan.
PTI cancels Waziristan rally
Citing some ‘avoidable circumstance’, the PTI on Thursday announced it had cancelled its scheduled rally in Waziristan. The PTI chief Imran Khan had planned to address a public gathering at Mirali area of North Waziristan on Friday [today].
“The PTI has cancelled its rally in Mirali ground, Waziristan, scheduled for May 11 for some unavoidable circumstances,” said a statement issued by the party’s central media department.
In his recorded message released a few days ago, Khan had said he would unveil his party’s post-general elections plan for tribal areas. A senior PTI leader said decision to cancel the rally had been taken following a ‘potential security threat’ issued by a sensitive agency.
