ZHUJI: The Fujian Sturgeons eased past the Nanjing Monkey Kings 131-116 to end their two-game losing streak in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league here on Monday.
Sitting bottom of the league with just three wins after the last round, Fujian started the game with an impressive 40-32 first quarter. In the second quarter, Fujian continued to shoot from behind the arc to outscore Nanjing by seven points, leading 77-60 at the halftime.
Nanjing’s Xiralijan Muhtar and Arnett Moultrie led a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to single digit in the third, before Tang Jie helped Fujian keep the lead with steady jump shots to secure their fourth victory this season.
The defeat means that Nanjing have suffered four straight losses, despite the best efforts of Moultrie, who took 42 points and 21 rebounds, and Xiralijan, who contributed 23 points and 14 assists.
Andrew Nicholson led Fujian with 35 points, and Chen Linjian had 31 points. Wang Zhelin, after his recovery from a concussion, had three rebounds and one steal in nine minutes of action.
Fujian’s Tang Jie had 13 points and 10 rebounds, marking his first ever career double-double.
