ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz (military) on China’s Minister of National Defence General Wei Fenghe at a special investiture ceremony held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President decorated the Chinese official with the award in recognition to his illustrious services for strengthening defence relations between Pakistan and China.
Meanwhile, Mr Wei Fenghe called on Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in Islamabad. The meeting discussed relations between both the time-tested friendly countries and issues related to mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by the higher civil and military leadership of both countries.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Secretary FO, and others were also present in the high-level meeting.
Amid the COVID-19 threat, Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed the Chinese Defence Minister upon his arrival at the PM House by tagging elbow with him.
Earlier Tuesday, China’s Minister of National Defence General Wei Fenghe had met with Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The army’s media wing said that the visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated the Pakistan Army’s sincere efforts for regional peace and the provision of a secure environment for the CPEC projects.
“The COAS thanked the dignitary for China’s unwavering support to Pakistan on all key issues at regional and international forums.
Moreover, an MoU was also signed for enhancement of defence cooperation between both the armies. Minister of National Defence, laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada while a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the Guard of Honour to visiting dignitary.
General Wei Fenghe also called on General Nadeem Raza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, at Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
Matters related to changing geostrategic environment and further strengthening of security and defence cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ‘Iron Brotherhood’ and‘All-Weather’ friendship with continued efforts to forge deeper strategic ties for a shared future and security vision.
Earlier, upon arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, a smartly turned out tri-services contingent presented ‘Guard of Honour’ to the visiting dignitary.
