Karachi: Pakistan women’s team head coach Iqbal Imam is satisfied with their overall performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Iqbal told the media that the girls were improved in all three departments which is a positive sign for them. “I think the players did really well and showed improvement in all three departments. We started the tournament on a strong note but unfortunately couldn’t carry the momentum,” he said.
The head coach also pointed out the weaknesses of his team and put fitness issues on top of them. “We lack high fitness standards and I think we need to work more on it.
The cricket has been advanced and fitness is very important to win matches. We have sort out the differences between us and other foreign teams and we will work on it,” he added.
Iqbal also highlighted that Bismah’s loss hurt them in remaining matches. “Obviously, Bismah was our main player and she could have made an impact. Unfortunately, we missed her but Javeria Khan led the team well,” he revealed.
Upon being asked, Iqbal said that Pakistani players don’t get enough matches in a year as compared to other cricketers in the world.
“Players of England, Australia, and other countries get 40 to 45 matches in a year whereas our players hardly play 10 to 20 matches that too in domestic tournaments,” he said. “We are in talks with Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani to organize more matches for our women cricketers to prepare them strongly for world events,” he added.
