BEIJING: The Global Supply Chain Promotion Report 2024 was released on Tuesday during the ongoing China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). As the flagship publication of the event, the report offers an in-depth analysis of the latest trends, challenges and developments in global supply chains.
The report provides global supply chain maps for 11 key industries, including humanoid robots, smart cars, integrated circuits, wind power, coffee and cotton. These maps illustrate the distribution of supply chains across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors, as well as the dominant economies and enterprises at each stage.
Key trends identified in the report include the integration of new technologies and the ongoing shift toward regionalization, diversification, digitalization and sustainability. It explores how these changes are reshaping supply chain structures and driving the development of new business models, as well as trade rules aimed at addressing the evolving dynamics of global supply chains.
The report also underscores the growing emphasis on supply chain resilience. Countries and businesses are taking proactive steps to protect critical product flows through increased domestic production and improved risk monitoring.
Ren Hongbin, chairman of CCPIT, noted that this is the first time such a comprehensive report on global supply chains has been published. He emphasized that the data-driven insights offered by the report addressed key questions related to global supply chain connectivity and disruption risks, which are of great concern to both governments and the global business community.
Alongside the report, two new indices were introduced: the Global Supply Chain Connectivity Index (GSCCI) and the Global Supply Chain Promotion Index (GSCPI). These indices aim to provide deeper insights into global supply chain development trends and risks, helping governments and businesses better understand the evolving global supply chain landscape.
The GSCCI is the world’s first comprehensive index measuring global supply chain connectivity. It is based on over 1.26 million pieces of high-quality data from international organizations such as the World Bank, the World Trade Organization and the International Monetary Fund, as well as statistical authorities from major economies and global databases.
The results, which have passed rigorous significance and robustness tests, provide a scientific and objective assessment of global supply chain connectivity.Meanwhile, the GSCPI, the world’s first index to quantitatively assess the level of global supply chain promotion, is based on a multi-layer calculation of over 50,000 pieces of authoritative data from international organizations. This index reflects the changes in the global supply chain promotion system in recent years.
The Global Supply Chain Promotion Report 2024 and the introduction of the two indices explain the latest trends in global supply chain promotion, the current status of global supply chain connectivity, and the underlying reasons behind them. They are expected to help stakeholders navigate the complexities of the evolving global supply chain environment in the coming years.
The release event also drew over 300 industry, academic and media representatives, who gathered to discuss the future of global supply chains.
