Global tech firms highlight AI & flying cars at Hainan Expo

BEIJING: The 5th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), or the Hainan Expo, started on April 13, bringing together over 4,100 brands from around the world, all vying for a slice of China’s vast and growing consumer market.
Some exhibition zones are spotlighting cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends. With a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), smart homes, and the low-altitude economy, global companies are showcasing how advanced technologies are becoming deeply integrated into everyday life.
Several humanoid robots are making their debut at the event. Among the highlights, Chinese robotics firm Unitree is unveiling G1, the country’s first mass-produced humanoid robot, featuring 23 to 43 joint motors capable of executing complex dynamic movements. Tesla is showcasing its humanoid robot with upgraded technology that boosts upright walking speed by 30 percent.
Smart living solutions are also drawing attention. Huawei is presenting its full HarmonyOS ecosystem lineup, demonstrating seamless interaction across users, vehicles, and homes. Its foldable Pura X phone features an AI-powered outer display, offering an immersive user experience.
China Mobile is highlighting integrated smart life scenarios, including four-legged robotic dogs designed to assist elderly people living alone and AI-powered home systems that monitor nine categories of abnormal behavior. The company is also launching a new product co-developed with DeepSeek under its Mobile Cloud platform.
The expo also features a dedicated low-altitude economy exhibition zone for the first time. Industry leaders like EHang, United Aircraft, and XPeng Huitian are debuting several certified new products, including drones, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and flying cars. The exhibits cover key aspects of the industry chain, from manufacturing to 3D traffic management systems and flight training.
This year’s CICPE also offers visitors tech-driven experiences, with new displays of brain-computer interfaces, exoskeletons, and sleep-assistance technology aimed at elderly care. The event runs until April 18. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
