Govt plans to restructure FC

ISLAMABAD: Federal government has decided to transform the Frontier Constabulary (FC) into a na-tionwide federal force, sources revealed on Sunday
According to insiders, the move includes renaming the force as the Federal Constabulary and expand-ing its operational jurisdiction to all four provinces, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
To implement the decision, the government plans to issue an ordinance following the federal cabinet’s approval of amendments to the Frontier Constabulary Act, 1915. These amendments will legally allow the force to operate beyond its current regional limits. Sources said that once the ordinance is enact-ed, nationwide recruitment for the new force will begin, and regional offices will be established across the country.
The restructured Federal Constabulary will be commanded by officers from the Police Service of Paki-stan, and is expected to play a key role in strengthening internal security and maintaining public order nationwide.
Officials describe the initiative as part of a broader strategy to centralise and reinforce national internal security mechanisms, aiming for more coordinated law enforcement across regions. –Agencies
