SHANGHAI: “Pakistan’s food industry, which is the country’s second largest industry, has great potential for exports to China. China is the largest export destination for Pakistani seafood and a major export destination for Pakistani rice. The exports of processed or packaged food from Pakistan to China are also increasing,” Mr. Hussain Haider, Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai highlighted.
Pakistani Consulate in Shanghai, in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and e-commerce platform Hema Fresh, Alibaba’s fresh-food chain, organized a webinar on “Export of Processed Food from Pakistan to China.”
According to the in-depth Investigation and Analysis Report of Pakistan Food Processing Market from 2021 to 2025 released by Newsijie Industry Research Center, the number of workers engaged in food processing in Pakistan accounts for 15.8% of the country’s total labor force. There are more than 1,000 large-scale food processing enterprises in the country.
Representatives from Hema Fresh introduced food products that are popular in China. They explained that nutrition and health have gradually become the first choice for Chinese consumers, and green natural food is trending. Besides, China’s diversified demand for quality dairy products also provides a new development direction for Pakistan’s dairy industry.
The webinar provided a good opportunity to connect Pakistani suppliers of processed food, including seafood, fruit juices, snacks, frozen vegetables and bakery products, to Hema Fresh. 10 Pakistani companies attended the webinar, during which they introduced their profiles and products that can be exported to China. -Agencies
