QUETTA: At least fourteen people were injured in a grenade blast on Quetta’s Smagli Road on Wednesday.
According to police, a grenade was lobbed at labourers working on an under-construction bridge. Two children are among the injured, they said.
On getting information, heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies and ambulances reached the scene. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The law enforcers cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence. A search operation was launched to arrest the culprits. Last month, four people were injured in a blast on Quetta’s Sariab Road. Some explosive material fitted on a motorcycle had gone off, resulting injuries to four people.
On Aug 11, at least six people were killed and 21 others had sustained wounds when a blast ripped through the Chaman’s Mall Road area. The remote-controlled bomb was planted on a motorbike.
Agencies add: Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said that the police are investigating the perpetrators behind the blast at Quetta’s Samungli Road today, which left ten people injured.
“The police and the district administration should bring those responsible for this cowardly attack under the law,” he said.
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal directed the police to submit a report as quickly as possible and added that those injured should be given medical treatment.
According to police officials, a hand grenade had been thrown at labourers in the area, resulting in ten people suffering serious injuries, including two children.
Police cordoned off the area after the incident occurred and shifted them to the hospital.
“Seven of the injured are under treatment at Bolan Medical College while the remaining are being treated at Civil Hospital,” Shahwani
said. A Civil Hospital spokesperson confirmed that seven injured citizens were brought to the facility. This is not the only attack that has taken place in Quetta recently; in September, an explosive was planted onto a motorbike, resulting in a blast outside a mosque Quetta’s Sariab Road after Friday prayers.
Similarly, five people were killed and 20 were injured in August after a blast on Chaman’s Mall Road due to an improvised explosive device (IED). An IED explosion in July killed one and injured seven in a marketplace in Turbat. Seven soldiers gained martyrdom in May after a conflict with militants, with six of the men losing their lives to a blast in Bolan district while the seventh died in an exchange of gunfire with militants in Makran district, sources had said.–Agencies
