BEIJING: China has made tremendous progress in promoting modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature, and more achievements are highly expected in this field as the nation forges ahead with its low-carbon transition, experts said.
The Chinese path to modernization offers many developing nations a route toward prosperity other than just following the Western model, they noted. They made the remarks after Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, delivered a report on Oct 16 at the opening session of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, which concluded on Oct 22.
Xi said that China’s modernization features a huge population, common prosperity for all, material and cultural-ethical advancement, harmony between humanity and nature, and peaceful development. “Respecting, adapting to and protecting nature is essential for building China into a modern socialist country in all respects. We must remember to maintain harmony between humanity and nature when planning our development,” Xi said.
This is not the first time Xi has emphasized modernization featuring harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. In an article published in June in Qiushi Journal, the flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee, he highlighted harmony as one of the vital characteristics of China’s socialist modernization.
