Hong Kong: Youths from China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) had a real-time Earth-to-space interaction with the taikonauts onboard China Space Station on Friday.
Nearly 300 science researchers, lecturers and students in Hong Kong have participated in the event. Other key space science researchers of China including the Chief Designer of China’s Manned Space Engineering program Zhou Jianping, China’s first astronaut Yang Liwei, Chief Designer of the astronaut system Huang Weifen had also attended the event.
Shenzhou-12 crew trio have shared their first-hand experience and know-how in space such as how to conduct experiment in a weightless environment, how to exercise and how to drink in space.
The taikonaut Liu Boming acted as a “tour guide” in space, showing the interior details of the core module of the space station.
He first introduced the section for conducting experiments, the section for control and monitoring as well as the life support system.
He floated sideways to the next section, carefully changing his feet into different hoops to fix himself standing upright.
Then he picked up a mobile camera and floated toward the dining area. Staple food including rice and noodles, a food heater and a mini-size fridge are stored there. Liu opened the fridge, took out a bag of yogurt and an apple, which he then showed to his audience on the ground via the camera. He said “The yogurt is so good! And the apple, it’s too precious to eat in space.”
Then he moved to their specially-designed sleep area where he showed a photo of his family attached on the wall.
Audience on the ground applauded for what they have seen via Liu’s camera where a blue planet in bright light emerged into view when he put the camera in front of the window of the station.
At the event, some students asked about what it takes to become an astronaut and what’s the proudest moment of an astronaut’s career.
