HONG KONG: The government of China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Wednesday announced two grants totaling 6.827 million Hong Kong dollars (about 880,898 U.S. dollars) for providing relief to flood victims in Bangladesh.
As the flooding had affected around 5.5 million people in Bangladesh, the HKSAR government accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee, and approved the two grants from the Disaster Relief Fund to two agencies, a spokesman of the HKSAR government said.
The two grants, one of 2.972 million HK dollars to World Vision Hong Kong and one of 3.855 million HK dollars to Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong, will be used to provide food kits and hygiene kits as well as household items and shelter materials to benefit around 63,750 victims. The committee hopes the grants will facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them restore their normal living, the spokesman said. – Agencies
