BAOJI: Hunan edged off Zhejiang 3-2 in the men’s team event final of the ongoing 2020 Chinese badminton Championships, winning the gold here on Monday.
In women’s team final, Fujian, who has more shuttlers from Chinese badminton National team, smashed Shanghai 3-1 and pocketed the gold medal.
In the opening men’s singles, Liu Liang defeated Lin Guipu of Zhejiang 21-18, 21-19 to gain the first point for Hunan.
“It was not Lin’s normal level, he was more nervous than I was,” Liu told Xinhua.
As the title favorite, Zhejiang put Zheng Siwei/Wang Yilv on the court in the second game. The duo crushed Huang Jiawei/Zhou Zhihong 21-14, 21-9 in 33 minutes, leveling up the scores.
Zhou Zeqi of Hunan imposed Ren Pengbo a tough match in the third game, beating Ren 21-13, 17-21 and 21-11.
Then Hunan’s Chai Biao/Fan Qiuyue lost to Zhejiang’s Zhou Haodong/Wang Chang 21-17, 21-16 in the second doubles clash.
In the deciding rubber, Wang Zhengxing from Chinese youth team edged off Huang Yuxiang of Zhejiang in three sets, 21-17, 20-22, 21-13.
“I went all out in the last game and my coach helped me make a great preparation,” said Wang.
In the women’s final match, Tan Ning took a part in two games, gaining two points for Fujian and helping her team win over Shanghai 3-1.
The individual events of the tournament will start on Tuesday.
