ISLAMABAD: The district administration has arrested 40 people and imposed fines of Rs 170,000 during price control operations, while 7 Ramzan facilitation markets continue to provide goods at set rates across the city.
Under the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Memon, assistant commissioners are visiting markets on a daily basis to check compliance and address public complaints. Officials said that 7 Ramzan facilitation markets have been set up in different areas of the city to provide relief to citizens. These markets are fully operational, and essential items are being sold at government-approved prices. The administration has ensured the availability of goods and regular monitoring to maintain price control.
During recent inspections, 40 individuals were arrested for violating official price lists, while five shops were sealed for overcharging and non-compliance. In addition, price control magistrates imposed fines totaling Rs170,000 on shopkeepers found guilty of charging higher rates.
The district administration stated that price control magistrates are present in all Ramzan markets to monitor prices and take action where needed. Officials added that immediate action is being taken on public complaints to ensure that violations are addressed without delay.
To keep citizens informed, the Deputy Commissioner’s office is issuing daily price lists through its social media platforms. Residents are encouraged to check the official rates before making purchases.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon has urged citizens to pay according to the notified prices and report any violations. He said that cooperation from the public is necessary to maintain fair pricing during Ramadan.
The administration has reiterated its commitment to continue operations against profiteering and ensure that relief measures remain in place throughout the month.
