ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting regarding the security arrangements for Muharram was held under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. The meeting was attended by all the DIGs, AIGs and SSPs.
During the meeting, IGP Islamabad reviewed the security arrangements for Muharram and instructed all police officers to remain on high alert during this period. He emphasized ensuring foolproof security arrangements for Imambargahs by deploying additional forces there.
Officers were also instructed to personally meet with the administrators of Imambargahs and inspect the routes of processions. For effective surveillance, the Safe City Islamabad cameras and drones should be utilized. All resources must be employed to monitor the processions and Imambargahs.
A coordinated security plan should be implemented throughout the city. The IGP Islamabad also made it clear that he would personally review all the security arrangements. All Zonal SPs were tasked with ensuring proper security arrangements for Imambargahs within their jurisdictions. Security duties at all internal and external locations should be on high alert, and officers were directed to provide a complete briefing to their subordinates regarding the nature of their duties.
Furthermore, IGP Islamabad stated that concrete measures should be taken to provide full protection to the processions and gatherings during Muharram. During these sacred days, efforts should be made to promote harmony in order to create an environment of peace and order.
He also urged the peace committees, and organizers of the gatherings to ensure timely adherence to the schedule of the gatherings and processions.
He further added that all officers should carry out their duties with sincerity, dedication, and a spirit of patriotism to maintain peace and order during Muharram. The protection of citizens’ lives and property is the police’s foremost responsibility.
