ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi chaired a security meeting to review law and order in federal capital, visited Imam Bargahs and held a Khuli Kacheri at the Central Police Office (CPO).
During the meeting, he issued directives to police officers to maintain a high level of security alertness during Muharram and emphasized the need for foolproof security arrangements at Imam Bargahs by deploying additional personnel at these locations.
All officers were instructed to meet with the administrators of Imam Bargahs and personally inspect the procession routes. Additionally, they were advised to use Safe City Islamabad cameras and drones for effective monitoring. All available resources should be utilized for overseeing the processions and Imam Bargahs. Officers were urged to remain vigilant at all times to ensure a coordinated security plan across the city.
In this context, the IGP also held a Khuli Kacheri at the Central Police Office (CPO) Islamabad, where he listened to the concerns of citizens and police officers and gave immediate instructions to relevant officials to address these issues. He emphasized that resolving citizens’ problems promptly and fairly is a top priority. While addressing complaints, he instructed officers to resolve applications on merit and within the prescribed timeframe.
Additionally, the IGP visited various Imam Bargahs in the federal capital, accompanied by senior police officers. During the visits, he reviewed the security arrangements and met with officers on duty. He also issued instructions to further strengthen the security measures.
He directed the police officers to ensure strict security arrangements during Muharram processions and gatherings.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of strengthened coordination among all relevant institutions.
He added that meetings have also been held with religious scholars, Sufi leaders, members of the Peace Committee, and intellectuals to foster unity and promote harmony during the sacred days of Muharram. This collaborative approach aims to create a peaceful and harmonious environment through consensus.
To ensure foolproof security, more than 16,000 officers from Islamabad Police, Pakistan Rangers, Special Branch, Logistics Division, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Lady Police, and Traffic Police have been deployed across the district to safeguard 181 processions and 965 gatherings starting from the 1st of Muharram. These efforts aim to maintain peace and order in the city.
