Independent woman MLA’s aides killed in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur

Unidentified criminals shot dead two aides of an independent woman MLA in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Monday night.

Police said Bochaha MLA Baby Kumari’s aides Ramshrungar Sahni and Mahedra Paswan were killed by unidentified gunmen when they were returning to their homes at Karnapur from Bochaha Bazaar, 84 km north of Patna.

Ramshrungar Sahni, brother of MLA’s representative Ramshreshtha Sahni, died on the spot, while Paswan succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a private nursing home, the police added.

Enraged over the killings, a mob led by Kumari and former BJP MLA from Aurai Ram Surat Rai, disrupted vehicular traffic on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga section of national highway (NH)-57 on Tuesday. The mob was demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, compensation to the bereaved families and removal of Bochaha police station SHO “for his failure in controlling crime”.

The MLA blamed police inaction for the incident. Had the police taken action in time on Sahni’s request for security, his life would have been saved, Kumari said and demanded payment of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of the victims.

Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Kumar said a special team had been constituted to nab the culprits. “The team is trying to ascertain the identity of the culprits. Prima facie, there are evidences to suspect involvement of professional killers,” he said, adding that the incident could be fallout of personal enmity.
