Inflation surges to 9.33% in March in Bangladesh

DHAKA: Inflation in Bangladesh jumped to 9.33 percent in March mainly due to higher consumer prices in the country, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) reported Tuesday.
Data showed month-on-month inflation in Bangladesh increased by 1.13 percent in March over February.
In March, the food inflation rocketed to 9.09 percent from 8.13 percent a month ago, while non-food inflation was 9.72 percent compared with 9.82 percent in February.
Bangladesh’s inflation rose 8.78 percent in February after falling for straight months from a decade high of 9.52 percent in August last year.
Bangladeshi Planning Minister MA Mannan told journalists Tuesday that he fears the consumer price index will cross the double-digit mark amid a surge in prices during the upcoming Muslim Eid festival holiday. –Agencies
