BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan received the first batch of 119,600 flu vaccines, Health Minister of the country Sabirzhan Abdikarimov told during news briefing.
According to him, at present it is distributed to all regions, vaccination will start from Sept. 16 in Bishkek city and Chui oblast, and gradually in all regions of the country.
“According to the WHO recommendation, the vaccine is primarily designed for people with chronic diseases, often sick children, persons with reduced immunity, pregnant women, people over 65 years of age, children from orphanages and boarding schools, people in nursing homes, as well as medical professionals.
The receipt of the second batch of 700 thousand doses of vaccine will be decided after Sept. 21.
The third stage is expected from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1 in the amount of 70 thousand doses. Coverage of preventive vaccination will make 13 % of population of the republic,” the minister informed.
“Immunization will be voluntary and free of charge.
Preventive vaccination is intended for everyone, but the purchased vaccine will not cover all comers, therefore, private medical centers that have a license are allowed to conduct vaccination against influenza on a fee basis,” he said.
Kyrgyzstan has reported 44,999 COVID-19 so far, including 41,103 recoveries and 1,603 fatalities.
