| IGP pays rich tributes to the cop martyred in the line of duty

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Tuesday termed the killing of a head constable in Islamabad as a terror act rather than a mugging incident.
Speaking to the media persons after funeral prayer of cop, Sheikh Rasheed said that a terror incident was reported near Karachi Company in Islamabad yesterday when head constable Munawar was shot dead by motorcyclists while performing his duty.
“This was a terror act rather than a mugging incident,” he said and added that they have received credible information regarding the wave of terror acts in Islamabad. “This is the first case of this year and there is a need to remain alert to thwart such acts,” he said.
The Interior Minister further announced that the investigation authorities have tightened the noose around the suspects involved in the terror act after the motorbikes used in the attack were traced. It is pertinent to mention here that a policeman was martyred and two officials were left wounded in a firing incident that took place in the federal capital Islamabad on Monday. According to police, unidentified assailants opened fire on police officials deployed on a check post in Sector G-8 of Islamabad, leaving one martyred and two seriously injured. The terrorists opened fire on police officials when they were stopped at a check post, said police, adding that two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire. 9mm pistol, AK-47 and bullets were recovered from the possession of terrorists, they added.
The funeral prayer of head constable Munawar Hussain was offered here on Tuesday who was martyred in the shootout on Monday night. Federal Minister for Interior, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Ahsan Younus, senior officers from Pakistan Army and police Jawans attended the funeral.
A guard of honor was presented by a well-armed contingent of Islamabad Police to the martyred policeman. The Capital Police Chief met with the family of martyr personnel and expressed condolences on behalf of the police force and prayed for the departed soul.
Speaking on the occasion, IGP Islamabad said the police force stood with the family of the martyr, adding that they would be taken care of in every possible way. All privileges would be ensured to them under police shuhda package.
According to police a shootout took place in Karachi Company police precincts in Sector G-8. Two other policemen were injured in the exchange of fire. The personnel were on a routine patrol and had set up a checkpoint at Jillani Chowk when two terrorists mororbike opened fire at the police party. The officials retaliated and three suffered bullet wounds.
The terrorists were killed on the spot, while the policemen were shifted to hospital, where the head constable Munawar Hussain embraced martyrdom. IGP Islamabad along with senior officers visited PIMS Hospital to review the arrangements and directed the hospital management to provide the best medical facilities to the injured personnel.
Shaheed Munawar Hussain joined the police force on February 23, 1984. He served in different divisions of capital police during his stay at service.
