International human rights forum kicks off in Beijing

BEIJING: The Forum on Global Human Rights Governance kicked off in Beijing on Wednesday, attracting over 300 participants from nearly 100 countries and international organizations, including United Nations agencies.
The two-day forum is themed “Equality, Cooperation and Development: The 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action and Global Human Rights Governance.”
Those attending the event included Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, Paul Chet Greene, Antigua and Barbuda’s foreign minister, and Aslan Abashidze, a professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations University.
Chinese cultural history attaches great importance to respecting and caring for people, and as time passes, human rights have become not only the achievements and symbols of human civilization and progress but also the relentless pursuit of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Fu said. Since its birth, the CPC has always strived for the interests of the people. For more than 100 years, it has been seeking happiness for the Chinese people, he said, adding that Xinhua will employ its strength to promote China’s human rights stories.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasizes the principles of non-discrimination and inclusiveness. It calls for equal rights and opportunities for all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion and social status, and ensures that marginalized and vulnerable groups have access to resources, thereby promoting social development, Greene said. Human prosperity in China is not only the victory of the CPC, the country, the government and the people, but also contributes to the world’s peaceful development, Abashidze said.
Ending extreme poverty 10 years ahead of schedule is not only a major achievement for China as a country but also a major victory for mankind as a whole, providing the world with major tools to improve the situation of poverty reduction, Abashidze added. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
