KARACHI: A district court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrarul Hassan in a case involving the alleged dissemination of anti-state content on social media.
This is the second time Hassan’s bail plea has been rejected. Earlier, on October 22, 2026, Judicial Magistrate-East had also dismissed his bail application.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered Case No. 101/2026 against Hassan under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Speaking to the media outside the court, Hassan’s lawyer said the defence would approach the Sindh High Court to seek suspension of the order after receiving the detailed judgment. On October 19, a judicial magistrate had sent Hassan to jail on judicial remand after rejecting the NCCIA’s request for an extension of his physical remand.
The agency had produced Hassan before Judicial Magistrate-East and sought his physical remand in connection with allegations that he had posted anti-state material on social media. However, the court rejected the request and directed the NCCIA to submit the challan within 14 days.
Hassan was arrested in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and subsequently brought to Karachi at around 1am, according to the details provided. –Agencies
