Iran announces funeral plan for late Ayatollah Khamenei: media

Iranian government has unveiled a three-day funeral plan for the late supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, citing a government official.

Tehran’s Deputy Mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh said that preparations for the farewell, funeral, and burial ceremonies of Khamenei were being finalised.

He said that three days of farewell ceremonies and a 24-hour funeral procession have been planned.

Following the funeral procession in Tehran, the body of the late Khamenei will be transferred to Qom and then to Mashhad for similar ceremonies, Tavakolizadeh added.

He said that Khamenei would be laid to rest at the Imam Reza shrine in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad. –Agencies
