TEHRAN: Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei on Thursday denied reports of a potential Iranian plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, calling the allegations a lie in the same interview with Lebanon’s media channel.
Rezaei’s comments came two days after the US Secret Service said it was aware of a video broadcast on Iranian state television that discussed a potential plot to kill Barron Trump.
The three-minute video, which was broadcast by Iranian state TV, alleged that Barron Trump was being monitored and discussed possible locations where he could be targeted.
The Secret Service said it investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat to its protectees but declined to discuss details of its protective intelligence.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have remained high amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, with threats against Trump and his family becoming a recurring feature of Iranian media coverage.
The US has previously said it received warnings from Israel about alleged Iranian plans to assassinate Trump. Trump has also said Iran considers him a target.
