BAKU: A parliamentary delegation led by Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani held a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku and discussed bilateral relations and regional situation.
In his remarks, the Senate Chairman said Pakistan is proud of its relations with Azerbaijan. He said both the countries are connected through religious, cultural and historical similarities.
Yousuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan desires to further strengthen its relations with Azerbaijan.
He noted that the high level exchanges between the two countries will help promote public diplomacy.
The Senate chairman informed the President of Azerbaijan about Special Investment Facilitation Council and referred to the investment opportunities that existed in different sectors of Pakistan including agriculture, energy and mining.
Earlier, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reiterated their resolve to further enhance bilateral relations by extending cooperation in diverse sectors, including energy, investment, and tourism, as well as other areas of mutual interest between the two countries.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between the Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Privatization, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, and the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, who called on him on Saturday in Baku.
Welcoming the Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Pakistani delegation, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan H.E. Ali Asadov said that both the two countries are connected with each other through a strong bond of brotherhood which will further be strengthened in the coming days.
He appreciated recent developments in various sectors of Pakistan and assured his support for increasing investment and mutual cooperation by Azerbaijan for Pakistani people.
During the meeting, Aleem Khan shed light on the investment opportunities in Pakistan including in the privatization of State Owned Entities (SOEs).
It was emphasized that following the state visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Pakistan last year, interstate relations have entered a qualitatively new stage. Both sides also discussed the development prospects of Azerbaijan-Pakistan strategic partnership relations in economy, trade, investments and other areas of mutual interest.
Abdul Aleem Khan also held meetings with Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Pervez Shahbazov, Transport Minister Rashad Nabiyev, Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashiri and President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rovshan Najaf. –Agencies
