ISSI delegation undertakes study visit to NRTC

ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on Wednesday undertook an official study visit to the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) to gain firsthand insights into the country’s indigenous radio and telecommunication capabilities and their critical relevance to national security.
The ISSI delegation was led by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), ISSI. The visit focused on innovation-driven self-reliance in communication technologies and their strategic relevance to national security.
In his remarks, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood lauded NRTC’s sustained efforts in advancing indigenous technological capabilities and acknowledged its pivotal role in reinforcing Pakistan’s defence and security architecture through innovation and technological excellence. He further underscored that secure, resilient, and indigenous communication systems constitute a vital pillar of national security, enabling effective command, control, and informed strategic decision-making.
Managing Director NRTC, Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, briefed the delegation on the organization’s mandate, core functions, and key ongoing projects.
He highlighted NRTC’s substantial contributions to both defence and civilian communication infrastructure, while also shedding light on emerging technological trends, challenges confronting the telecom sector, and future directions for innovation and growth.
The visit concluded with the exchange of mementos, reflecting mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to continued engagement in support of Pakistan’s strategic and technological advancement.
