ISLAMABAD: The government of Japan has announced to dispatch a Self-Defense Force (SDF) aircraft to assist with relief activities in southeastern Turkey following a devastating earthquake, according to a media handout issued by Japanese Embassy here on Monday.
“One SDF aircraft is scheduled to depart for Pakistan, as early as 14th (today), to transport emergency relief supplies, including tents located in Pakistan, to Turkey”, read the presser.
Since Turkey is a member State of NATO, the statement said, this marks the first international emergency relief opera-tion carried out in cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, upon the request from Ankara, and NATO, to Japan, its global partner, to cooperate in the transportation of relief supplies by an SDF aircraft.
The Japanese government is committed to continuing necessary assistance in cooperation with NATO and internation-al organizations, leveraging its experience and knowledge as an earthquake-prone country, the presser concluded. -PR
