JI leader arrested under Peca law

MANSEHRA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Shabbir Ahmed has been arrested in Mansehra under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
As per detail, this is the first case registered under the amended PECA law in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to reports, Ahmed was taken into custody after his speech against the government and state institutions on Kashmir Solidarity Day.
The accused will be presented before an anti-terrorism court in Abbottabad today.
The ‘controversial’ Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendments Act, 2025, was enforced across Pakistan, following assent from President Asif Ali Zarari.
Following passage of the PECA Amendment Bill. 2025 from the Senate and National Assembly, the journalist community staged protests across Pakistan and demanded the government to take the ‘controversial’ legislation.
