Manchester: England have dropped Joe Denly from England’s squad for the second Test against West Indies at Old Trafford starting from tomorrow as captain Joe Root returns from paternity leave.
The 34-year-old Denly averages 29.53 in the last 15 matches and was out for 18 and 29 in the first Test loss in Southampton. Root will bat at four, with Zak Crawley moving up to number three.
Denly made his Test debut against West Indies in 2019 and has batted everywhere in the top four. He made his highest score in Test cricket but has not passed more than 38 in his past eight innings.
It must be noted that Ben Stokes led the side in the first Test as Root was with his family, attending the birth of his second child.
