LAHORE: Renowned journalist, columnist and intellectual Dr Ajmal Niazi passed away on the night between Sunday and Monday in Lahore.
A large number of politicians, fans and people from the journalist fraternity have expressed their condolences over the demise of the renowned columnist.
In recognition of his services, the government had bestowed him with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz.President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday paid tribute to late columnist and intellectual Ajmal Niazi for his invaluable services in diverse fields. “Late Ajmal Niazi has left an eternal mark with his immense contribution to multiple areas, including literature and journalism,” the president said in a tweet shared by his Office.
The president expressed deep grief over the death of Ajmal Niazi and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. He also prayed for the patience of bereaved family.Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of eminent poet, journalist and columnist Dr Ajmal Niazi.
In a statement the minister said that Ajmal Niazi not only served in the field of education, but also remained associated with a great field like journalism. Dr Ajmal Niazi spent 45 years in the service of Urdu and Punjabi poetry as well as literature, the minister said. The minister said that his column “Be Niaziyan” was very popular among the readers.
Fawad said the vacuum created in the field of journalism, education and literature with the demise of Ajmal Niazi could not be filled.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned columnist and journalist Ajmal Niazi.
In a condolence message, he said that Ajmal Niazi continued efforts to reform the society through his pen. He said Ajmal Niazi’s services for the journalism will always be remembered. Ajmal Niazi was a pioneer of journalism as well as a high profile poet who highlighted social issues through his columns, he remarked. He prayed to Allah Almighty to bless Ajmal Niazi’s soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.
