ISLAMABAD: Journalist Imran Riaz Khan, who was in headlines for the past few weeks for being threatened by certain unknown govt functionaries and against whom some arguable cases were registered at various police stations under the charges of speaking against State institutions, was finally arrested on Tuesday night from Islamabad Toll Plaza of the Lahore -Islamabad Motorway section while he was travelling to Islamabad for some legal matters at the Islamabad High Court.
According to the sources, close to the arrested journalist, some 15 Station House Officers (SHOs) of Attock District police had come o the Toll Plaza along with their subordinates to ensure the arrest of the loud journalist who was later reported to be taken to Attock.
Islamabad High Court had earlier given him bail and issued orders that Imran should not be arrested in any case from the Islamabad territory without prior permission of the court. However, Punjab government, soon after Journalist’s arrest stated that he was arrested from the jurisdictions of Punjab and not Islamabad.
It may be mentioned here that Imran Riaz Khan had been very vocal on the issue of the Regime Change which resulted into the ouster of PTI govt and formation of government by the then joint opposition alliance PDM. He uploaded many V-logs on his social media platforms, criticizing this overnight change of government. Recently, he spoke very loudly at a seminar held in Islamabad and repeated his social media rhetoric at the event after which, first, another speaker of the event, a very Senior Journalist Ayaz Ameer was thrashed by unknown assailants in Lahore while Imran Riaz complained about receiving many threats from unknown callers. He also reported that his licensed weapons were ceased by Police along with the legal documents while the NOC for his Bulletproof vehicle was also cancelled while finally, on Tuesday night, he was taken into Police custody in a highly dramatic manner.
Meanwhile, Imran’s lawyers have moved Islamabad High Court on this development, upon which Inspector General Police has been summoned for explanation during the hearing of the case scheduled to be placed before the Court by 10 a.m by today.
