WINDHOEK: Namibia’s Nathanael Kakololo will challenge Lerato Dlamini of South Africa for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight scheduled for March 8 in East London, South Africa.
Namibia’s MTC-Salute Boxing Academy chairman and promoter, Kriata Kamanya announced the scheduled fight on Monday.
“This title is big to us and it is big to the boxer as well as to the Namibian nation because this is an opportunity for Kakololo to finally break through the rankings and get closer to the world title,” he said. According to Kamanya, Kakololo who is the current holder of the ABU Featherweight African Title will relinquish his title for the WBC Silver title, which will mean his title will be vacant the moment he steps in the ring.
South Africa’s Lerato Dlamini last year staged a stellar performance when he outclassed Filipino Dave Penalosa to win the vacant WBC Silver featherweight title over 12 rounds.
Dlamini boasts of 13 wins and a single loss, while Kakololo has 15 fights, 12 wins, one draw and one defeat under his belt. Meanwhile, Namibia’s team Kakololo led by trainers Tobias Nashilongo and Elifas Namundjembo will depart for South Africa on March 2. – Agencies
