Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue raising the Indian Illegally Occupied and Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) dispute at all the global and regional forums because Kashmir had been the oldest and longstanding unresolved agenda item of the United Nations Security Council since 1948. During an interview with the foreign media, the caretaker Prime Minister declared that Pakistan had been consistently defending and advocating the Kashmir issue at all the available multilateral and regional fora and would continue its unhindered efforts until the resolution of the globally accepted issue.
Realistically, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute has been, continuously persisted and will be a major territorial dispute, an ever elevated nuclear flashpoint and a long-held humanitarian issue, that sets in a thickly populated region in the world. This all-time simmering conflict between two nuclear-armed neighbours is not only a grave risk to global peace but poses a serious risk of a nuclear war in the Indo-subcontinent which could perish millions of human lives in moments. Over the decades, the people of Jammu and Kashmir did not lose their confidence in the global forum of the United Nations, and its widely approved resolutions which not only acknowledged Kashmiris’ right to self-determination but also bound contesting nations to create a conductive environment for publicities and ultimate solution of the dispute under UN auspices. Unfortunately, UN Security Council resolutions were not time-bound, which was used by the occupier to its advantage for consolidating its grip over the valley instead of meeting its obligations under UN resolutions.
Presently, the Jammu and Kashmir valley is the most militarized zone and over seven hundred thousand troops are deployed in globally accepted disputed territory in the world. There were gross state atrocities and human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) over the past years. The entire area had been turned into the largest prison in the world, and Kashmiris’ voices were stifled. On the domestic political front, the ruling BJP has faced a defeat in the ongoing state elections in multiple states and BJP leadership trying to capitalise on the anti-Pakistan sentiments of the general populace to gain a landslide victory in the upcoming election. The reports suggest that the Modi government is currently preparing to repeat its past practice of gaining political mileage ahead of upcoming elections by staging false flag operations in occupied regions to label blame on Pakistan. Accusing Pakistan of harbouring terrorists and supporting extremist elements in India, Modi’s tested scheme to win elections is once again on public display. Unfortunately, Indian rulers had staged such episodes several times in the past and now the RSS-influenced Hindutva regime again mulls on pushing the South Asian region into instability and a full-fledged nuclear clash.
