ISLAMABAD: Key accused in the murder case of medical student Asma Rani, Mujahid Afridi was brought back to Pakistan from Sharjah with the assistance of Interpol, media reported.
The accused in murder of the medical college student was brought back via Dubai to Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) teams were also present at the airport where Kohat police’s Special Branch teams took the accused in their custody.
Soon after the incident, the accused had fled to Dubai following which his name was placed in the Interpol’s most wanted people’s list. KP police had approached Interpol through the FIA for his arrest.
Inspector General KP Police Salahuddin Mehsood stated police was continuously in contact with the Interpol for the last four weeks.
Interpol is a network of police forces from 190 countries all over the world. Interpol’s job is to help police in different countries work together to solve crimes that cross borders.
Asma Rani’s murder
Asma Rani, a third year student at Ayub Medical College, was shot dead in January this year at her hometown in Kohat after she allegedly rejected the marriage proposal of the accused.
Family members say Asma was returning home in a rickshaw with her sister-in-law when suspect Mujahid Afridi, who was lying in wait outside their house, shot her dead.
Asma received three bullet wounds and was shifted to a hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead.
In a video posted on social media by her relatives, Asma Rani had blamed Mujahidullah for her murder.
Police had registered an FIR of the case on the complaint of brother of the deceased, Muhammad Irfan, under Section 324 and 304 of Pakistan Penal Code.
