Karachi: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Kahlid Wazir, who was part of Pakistan’s historic 1954 tour of England has died at the age of 84 after battling a prolonged illness in Chester on Saturday.
Wazir featured in only two Tests but he representation for Pakistan came when Pakistan established their name in cricket. He only made 14 runs in two games without getting a chance to bowl. He had become a successful club cricketer in the North Staffordshire and District League.
He was tall, athletic medium-pacer, and hard-hitting middle-order batsman. Wazir played in 18 first-class matches and scored 271 runs while he picked 14 wickets.
The 16th Test cricketer and the second-youngest for his country at the time of his debut against England at Lord’s as only Hanif Mohammad was younger on debut until then.
He was born in Jalandhar, now part of India, in 1936 and his family decided to migrate to Pakistan following the partition of the subcontinent.
