GILGIT: Karakoram International University (KIU) has launched a scholarly book titled “CPEC and BRI Nexus: Perspectives on Economy, Politics, Culture and Environment” on October 8, offering a comprehensive look into the multidimensional impact of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Compiled by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Ataullah Shah, Dr. Faqir Muhammad, Director of the China Study Center (CSC), and Khalid Mahmood Alam, Assistant Professor at the same center, the book was unveiled at a grand ceremony held recently at the university.
The book provides “comprehensive insights into the economic, political, cultural, and environmental dimensions of CPEC and the BRI, highlighting their transformative potential for Pakistan and the broader region.”
Speaking as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ataullah Shah emphasized the importance of academic collaboration in understanding the strategic and developmental aspects of CPEC and BRI.
“This book is a milestone in promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening ties between Pakistan and China,” he said, commending the CSC for advancing research on bilateral relations.
The book’s preface describes CPEC as “one of the most transformative undertakings in contemporary global development,” noting that “its scope transcends infrastructure and trade, reaching into the spheres of politics, culture, environment, and society.”
Comprising eleven chapters written by KIU scholars, the book examines distinct facets of CPEC and its alignment with BRI.
The editors note that the book seeks to “contribute to scholarly discourse and policy debates by presenting balanced perspectives highlighting both opportunities and challenges,” while offering “actionable insights for stakeholders engaged in these transformative initiatives.”
According to Dr. Faqir Muhammad, the publication reflects KIU’s growing role as a center for CPEC-related academic research and policy analysis. “It demonstrates how regional universities can contribute to national development through research, innovation, and collaboration,” he said.
The launch of “CPEC and BRI Nexus: Perspectives on Economy, Politics, Culture and Environment” underscores KIU’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship. By integrating economic, cultural, and environmental perspectives, the book positions the university as a key contributor to the evolving discourse on Pakistan-China cooperation under the CPEC framework. –Agencies
