PESHAWAR: The Planning & Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is establishing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Cell (CPEC Cell) which will work as a liaison and coordination between federal and provincial governments.
According to an official document, the cell will be established with an estimated cost of Rs. 162.794 million. Of them, Rs. 69.204 million were allocated during the previous fiscal year while Rs. 93.590 million have been allocated during the Annual Development Program 2022-23 and this balance will be released during this year.
The proposed CPEC Cell will act as a center for intervention, as well as liaison and coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
The Cell will also pursue provincial projects at the federal level for inclusion in the CPEC portfolio and removal of bottlenecks.
The cell will also arrange training and visits both locally and abroad connected to CPEC and will play a proactive and anticipatory role in addressing related issues through forehand preparation.
Rashakai prioritized Special Economic Zone (pSEZ) is a flagship project under the industrial cooperation of the CPEC framework. Besides pSEZ, Hakla-D.I. Khan Motorway (M-14) and KKH Phase II, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project is being developed under CPEC.
The government of KP plans to include several projects in CPEC, so the role of CPEC Cell becomes important to pursue such projects.
