BISHKEK: President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov received on Sunday State Councilor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi, who paid an official visit to Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz President’s press service reported that an exchange of views took place on the priority areas of the Kyrgyz-Chinese bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov stressed his interest in further development of economic cooperation between the countries, focused on priority projects in the fields of agriculture, transport and roads.
He also conveyed greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed gratitude to the Government of China for the provided humanitarian assistance, as well as for sending medical experts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
President Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted that the Kyrgyz side is interested in the implementation of new models of cooperation, in such areas as e-commerce and information technology, which in turn contributes to the activation of trade and economic ties between the countries.
Considering the negative impact of coronavirus infection on the macroeconomic situation, he proposed to consider the possibility of facilitating and prolonging payments on the external debt of Kyrgyzstan to China.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed gratitude to President Sooronbay Jeenbekov for the meeting, and conveyed greetings on behalf of President Xi Jinping.
He also read out a message from Xi Jinping, which states that bilateral relations between the countries have stood the test of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and now it is necessary to focus on strengthening cooperation in the post-pandemic period, including through the One Belt One Road initiative.–Agencies
