Kyrgyz President vows firm commitment to development

Bishkek: Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov met with Internal Affairs Minister Ulan Niyazbekov. Minister Niyazbekov presented information on current activities to ensure public safety of citizens, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government said. According to him, more than a thousand police officers are involved in daily patrols in cities and regions of the republic in order to ensure public security.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted Kyrgyzstanis expect from the Interior Ministry serious results in fighting crime and effective work to ensure law and order and public safety.
“Despite growing public criticism of the internal affairs agencies, the Interior Ministry must continue to work openly and transparently. It should be aimed primarily at increasing the responsibility of police officers to society,” said the acting president. At the end of the meeting, PM Zhaparov emphasized the need to effectively implement the planned reforms and set a number of specific tasks for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.
Meanwhile, Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov received Chairman of the country’s National Bank Tolkunbek Abdygulov, the press service of the Kyrgyz Government said on Monday. During the meeting, Tolkunbek Abdygulov presented information on the National Bank’s activities aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability in the country, sustainability and security of the banking and payment systems of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the situation at the currency market.
Issues related to smoothing the negative economic consequences of coronavirus infection for the population and business entities were discussed.
Acting President, Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov noted the importance of maintaining the stability of the financial and banking system, the stability of the exchange rate of the national currency, as well as reducing risks to the national economy due to the spread of coronavirus infection.
Due to stabilization of the situation in the country, Zhaparov instructed the National Bank to take measures for timely and uninterrupted implementation of payment and transfer operations through national and international payment systems, as well as resumption of cross-border operations through SWIFT system and alternative communication channels without restrictions. Earlier, Acting President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov in an interview with Russia 24 called the condition for participation in the presidential elections.
According to the current legislation of the country, the person acting as the head of the republic cannot participate in elections.
“At the moment, the parliament is preparing amendments to the legislation on parliamentary and presidential elections. If, as a result of these changes, the law is allowed to participate in elections, I will go. But it is too early to talk about it, a decision on this issue has not yet been made,” Zhaparov said.
Sadyr Zhaparov became acting president of Kyrgyzstan after resignation of Sooronbay Jeenbekov on Oct. 16.
Speaker of the Parliament Kanat Isayev refused to serve as a president and recently appointed Prime Minister of the country Sadyr Zhaparov became the acting president of the country.
