Former International wicketkeeper batsman Luke Ronchi has been appointed as the New Zealand team’s new batting coach.
The 39-year-old has replaced former test batsman Peter Fulton who stepped down to become head coach of the first-class side, Canterbury.
Ronchi had been working with the New Zealand men’s team for the last two years as fielding and wicketkeeping coach
“I’m absolutely pumped. I’ve really enjoyed being back with the team in recent seasons and it’s exciting to be given the opportunity full-time this summer,” Ronchi said.
He will start his tenure as the Kiwis are scheduled to play against West Indies for three T20Is and two Tests.
“Getting the chance to continue working with our batsmen is a great honor and I’m looking forward to seeing how I can help improve their games and best prepare them to perform at the highest level,” he added.
It must be noted that Ronchi was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia as a child and played for his adopted country from 2008-2009.
He came back to New Zealand in 2012 and was brought into the national squad in 2013. He represented Kiwis in four Tests, 85 ODIs and 33 T20Is.
He retired from international cricket in 2017 but had been playing in various Twenty20 leagues around the world. He last played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season five group stage earlier this year for Islamabad United.
