Mansoor Awan made new AGP

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi on Friday approved the appointment of Mansoor Usman Awan as Attorney-General for Pakistan (AGP) while accepting the resignation of Ashtar Ausaf Ali from the office.
The appointment was approved under Article 100 of the Constitution. The former AGP Ashtar Ausaf Ali had resigned from his post back in September. He had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, he was asked to continue working till a replacement is appointed.
Awan is a Lahore-based lawyer. He was the Counsel of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in several matters including implementation of Article 95, Presidential Reference on interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution. Awan has cordial relationship with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar as well. He will likely to be youngest AGP in recent past.
