ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Finance Dr Shamshad Akhtar has expressed the firm commitment to fostering international cooperation and innovative tax policy solutions to further strengthen the revenue base in the country.
She stated this while participating in the roundtable discussion on “Global tax policy reforms and options for G-24”. The event was held in the backdrop of annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Morocco, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on Saturday.
The event provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on pressing global economic issues and the exploration of dynamic options for tax reform within the G-24 community.
In another event on the theme of “Making the IMF supported programmes work”, the finance minister emphasised the need for customising IMF programmes according to the unique economic needs of partner countries.
Based on her extensive experience in financial matters and leadership in economic affairs, the caretaker minister shared insights and perspectives for ensuring effective collaboration between the governments and international financial institutions. While attending the seminar titled “Transforming climate action through country climate development reports”, Akhtar underscored Pakistan’s commitment to addressing climate change challenges through comprehensive strategies and initiatives. The session was also joined by the representatives from Tajikistan and Malawi, said a statement.
The diverse panel of experts brought valuable perspectives and experiences to the seminar, facilitating with a rich exchange of ideas and best practices for fostering international cooperation and knowledge sharing in the global fight against climate change.
The caretaker finance minister also held a meeting with Bill & Melinda Gates (BMG) Foundation’s Global Growth & Opportunity Division Chief Executive Officer Mark Suzman.
Building on previous discussions in Pakistan, the meeting centered around Pakistan Digital Stack, which was the next generation of Raast-support digital public infrastructure that Pakistan could introduce with BMG Foundation’s help.
The meeting was followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Finance and BMG Foundation on the Pakistan Digital Stack.
