LAHORE: A mouflon sheep gave birth to a lamb in Lahore Zoo on Monday.
After this addition, the number of mouflons at the zoo has risen to 20—ten males (rams) nine females (ewes), and one female baby.
According to the management officials, both mother and baby are healthy and they took custody of the mouflon sheep mother and her baby for special care. They said mouflon hunting has been strictly banned in the country but despite this, the species is on the brink of danger.
The mouflon is a wild sheep native to Cyprus, the Caspian region from eastern Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. It is thought to be the ancestor of all modern domestic sheep breeds. Mouflon has reddish to dark brown, short-haired coats with dark back stripes and black ventral areas, and light-coloured saddle patches. –Agencies
