BEIJING: World leaders have lauded China’s V-Day parade held in Beijing on Wednesday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the commemoration was held “brilliantly and at the highest level,” Russian media outlet TASS reported on Wednesday. “All of these events were held brilliantly, simply very well, at a high level,” Putin said.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed gratitude to the Chinese president and the Chinese people for their “sincere friendship” toward Serbia, in a Facebook post. He said, “China has always stood by Serbia, especially in difficult times. Serbia and the Serbian people will never forget this!”
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the commemorative V-Day parade “served as a timely reminder that a nation’s sovereignty must always be defended and safeguarded,” reported Bernama.com.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s press service wrote on X that attending the military parade “reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s foreign policy commitment to fostering friendship and constructive dialogue for peace, sustainable development and prosperity.” Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli praised the ceremony as a “remarkable occasion.” He hailed the event as “a truly historic gathering of global friendship and remembrance,” in a post on X following the conclusion of the parade.
Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban president, who attended the event, posted on his X account in Chinese that “admiring China’s glorious history and its progress today, [I] sincerely thank the Communist Party of China, the government, and the people for their steadfast unity and vital support in countering the blockade.”
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told Putin in a meeting a day before the commemoration that he was grateful for the opportunity to attend the parade. According to the Belarusian Telegraph Agency, Lukashenko stressed that joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was a strategic choice for Belarus and voiced support for the China-proposed Global Governance Initiative. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
